TOPS-10

TOPS-10 (for “Timesharing (or Total) OPerating System-10”) is an operating system developed by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in the early 1960s originally under the name “Monitor” for their PDP-6 mainframe computer. In 1966 Monitor was adapted as the operating system for DEC's PDP-10 series of mainframe computers, and renamed “TOPS-10” in 1970. DEC's last version of TOPS-10, 7.04, was released in 1988. Systems Concepts released a version of TOPS-10 under the name “Mars 7.05” for their PDP-10-compatible computers.

Fans of TOPS-10 and the PDP-10 computer celebrate December 10 as DEC-10 Day.
